One man Fallschirmjager panzerjager

So 2 years and no upload oopsie.

 

 

I think I also started this project around 2 years ago so good subject for a restart.

Background info:

The idea: This is a one man Fallschirmjager panzerjager, designed to fit under a Stuka or somewhat bigger light/medium bombers,  I got that idea from the Dobbas cargo pod that could carry up to 1800kg cargo depending on the plane used, with the Luftwaffe demand for an under 3,5t Fallschirmjager panzerjager, my weird obsession with airborne tanks and one man tanks, then it all clicked design a Panzerjager with a weight up to 1800kg so it would fit under a Ju-86D Stuka and that turned out to be this.

 

 Body: Well sloped with inspiration from both the Hetzer and Jagdpanzer IV

                -8mm for the rest 

 

Engine, possible a Volkswagen beetle engine from the Kubelwagen or a similar sided one would work and gearbox in the back. One the right side the solo crewmember, more on that later and with a small radio Kleinfunksprecher D Dorette. Left the gun and most of the ammo not that many round fit, got some 12 HEAT and 7 HE rounds in there + 4 in the magazine but my ammo is a bit over scale but I doubt many more will fit, the HE is shorter so does fit behind the seat and in the nose better.

Big visor hatch, as there is no commander to tell where the driver needs to go big hatch to view things out of maybe even going a bit bigger and use it as a escape hatch but that is maybe a bit too Russian and rotating periscope.

Idler at the front, 3 steel wheels per side and T-34 style sprocket at the rear.

 

Armament: My first idea was a couple of 88mm Panzerschrecks or 105mm Hammers but that look too much like the Borgward IV Panzerjager Wanze or the Ontos also the range would be very limited so skipped that and went for the upgraded 88mm Raketenwerfer 43 Puppchen, lets call it the uber Puppchen or grosse Puppe? Anyway longer barrel and longer tail for the round so it will fit more propellent and give a longer range. Big muzzle brake, the real Raketenwerfen 43 has a pretty big kickback so it would need something to help with that. Adding a 4 round revolver style "magazine" for faster follow up shots. Last a Stg44 or Fg42 as a coax and spotting rifle.

  

The model: Or  I should say models as I made 2, 1 to test the interior and of anything fits and 1 solid body, likely I will just finish the solid body 1 as the 1 with full interior is very flimsy and with the latest heatwave already started to warp. Running gear came from a couple of different sources of scratch build models I did before, idler is the main wheel from I think from Borgward IV or could be the T-60, main wheels from a different airborne Panzerjager I’m working on for a even longer time as this one. I am toying with the idea of doing a series maybe a tractor and a version with 20mm/30mm cannon instead of the 88mm, don’t think a turret is possible so will also be hull mounted.

    -gun sight 

    -drivers hatch

    -engine hatch

    -fenders

    -maybe schurzen

    -tracks, going to print the tracks, really simple Panzer 4 tracks that I have rescaled 

 

Crew member: for the crew I sculpted a couple of test figures with a combination of Fallschirmjager smock bottoms and the Panzer wrap top, the idea behind it being to reflect that they are the elite of the elite so wear a combination of uniforms is needed.

The sidearm is also unique, got the idea from AO-46 and excuse that the Germans would have something like it 25 years before the AO-46 is that Hitler order a pistol made for the Pistolenpatrone M43 (pistol cartridge model 1943) aka 7.92×33mm Kurz, after all dictator logic if something is called a pistol cartridge a pistol for it needs to be made.

Mechanical coffin

Meet the mechanical coffin, yes it was its real name, designed by Martel better known for the Martel one man tank later redesigned to a 2 man version. the nose and side panel are folding plates with a firing slit in the front, of course this is not to replace tanks but purely to give infantry more speed and some protection. The driver is Mr Martel himself.

Still need to add a few rivets but most of the build is done.

Modelcollect AU72195 - BLF-100 review

Modelcollect AU72195 - BLF-100 is a new kit in Modelcollects Fist of War range.
The BLF-100 is a 2 legged walker with 2 options for arms, the kits folder claims it to be 2 20mm machine guns or 75mm cannon and you get 4 walkers with enough guns for to model all 4 with the same guns or mixed them up.

Overall the model looks somewhat like the ED209 from Robocop something I like.

The 20mm machine gun looks like to the MG151 pod as used on Focke-Wulf Fw 190 but the barrels more like 20mm Kwk 38 barrels, no idea where the ammo would go couple of cylinders on top and bottom would fix that, the 75mm cannon arm looks very small for a 75mm gun and the barrel thickness is less then of the 50mm Pak 38 but the barrel is much shorter, looks like it has a magazine for a couple of rounds under need the gun arm which could fit 2-3 rounds max.

The legs have some good details on them with plenty of nuts and bolts, it could use better ankles and sadly it can only be posed 1 way, it would be cool if it could be posed in a walking mode it is a walker after all, it looks like it could be possible to cut the lower legs and repose them without much trouble.

That leave the upper body, compared to the legs its a bit bare, at the front there is the cockpit and at the back would be the engine, the box art shows some grills on the top but there are none, there could be more detail on the back as well, but the cupola is the worse part it as no view ports or periscopes, there is a bump on the front but nothing more, on mine I will replace it and something a bit like the drivers view port of the Panzer IV on the front and slits or flaps on the side. There is a plate on the nose this could be a hatch or add on armor.

I left of the schurtzen over the hips and lower back as it would block some of the detail and make it harder to paint later on.

The kits goes together well but there are gaps on some parts.
Overall a bit of a mixed bag some parts are good some not so much but with some extra detail it would make it a nice little kit.
As it is a fantasy model all options are open and it would be easy to replace 1 of the weapon arms and do a arm or a rocket launcher.
